Some Shareware to Download
Please go to www.dantz.com and look at Retrospect or www.symantec.com and look at Ghost if you need to perform disk backups. Neither program is perfect. Retrospect provides the best clone functions. Ghost will get you back running quicker but requires lots of backup media and has some bugs on networks. The free Linux distro, Knoppix, is the most powerful and best at emergency recovery, but requires a Windows shutdown.
Clone Directory 1.22,
Freeware Version (click to download)
This program clones entire Windows 95 & NT directories/disks. It can be used to make exact backup
copies of files and folders from one drive to another. This may be a dangerous operation for novice computer
users, so use it at your own risk! It is a zip file that you must expand into a temporary directory or
floppy. Run the SETUP.EXE program to install the program.
- This program will not backup your hard disk to floppies or a tape drive. It was designed to backup to large removable disks such as a ZIP, JAZ, etc. The destination disk must be able to hold all the files you wish to clone.
- 1/7/98 I have done some testing on using this program to backup Windows NT systems. It doesn't work very well because the registry files are locked on a running system and can't be backed up. At this time I do not recommend using this program to backup Windows NT. It can still be used to backup and restore drives other than the one the system is on. This is mostly a Microsoft issue. They didn't design Windows NT for easy backup operations. If you want a solution that works see Drive Image at www.powerquest.com although you will find that it is not easy to use either. For details see this bug report
- 7/12/2001 You can now download the source for this program (Borland Delphi 3). This source is placed in the public domain with minor restrictions as explained in the license provided with the source. Download and install the program (above) to obtain the help file.
Link Mapper 1.0,
Freeware Version
Netscape keeps your Internet links in a HTML file that is easily imported into pages. Microsoft Internet
Explorer keeps the links in .URL files which makes importing a group of links much harder. I finally got
ticked off enough to write a program that would convert these files into HTML code for easy pasting into
web pages.
- This program is provided as freeware for the Internet community to use. Unzip it and run the program. The program will normally start up and find your C:\WINDOWS\FAVORITES folder. If your favorites are stored in another folder you will need to manually search for it. Otherwise the program should be easy to use. Just follow the help hints on the lower status bar.
- 1/7/98 This program was found to have some problems with Windows NT. You will need to cancel some error messages and manually find your favorites folder.
You may need the Windows ZIP program from PKWare
to expand the files.
